چکیده

Testing and assessing the persistency, bioaccumulative toxic properties of UVCBs (substances Unknown or Variable composition, Complex reaction products Biological materials) pose major technical analytical challenges. The main aim this study was to combine whole substance biodegradation testing with constituent specific analytics for determining primary kinetics UVCB constituents. An additional link constituents bioaccumulation potential baseline toxicity UVCB. Two closed experiments were conducted using similar test systems but different analyses. model substance, cedarwood Virginia oil, tested at a low concentration wastewater treatment plant effluent served as inoculum. We used microvolume solvent spiking quantitative mass transfer UVCB, while avoiding that co-solvent degradation would lead anaerobic conditions. determined automated solid-phase microextraction coupled GC-MS/MS targeted analysis non-targeted minor non-polar products. Primary constituents, accounting 73% w/w mixture, successfully rate constants ranging from 0.09 0.25 d −1 . Minor also degraded not observed. Finally, mixture start calculated both parameters decreased then substantially. strength new approach is possibility generating kinetics. • Whole yielded Screening method. Estimated during biodegradation.

Evaluation of biodegradation kinetics of specific organic constituents at full-scale facilities

The present work was aimed at determining the feasibility of applying the extant kinetic technique to evaluate the ability of the biomass to degrade specific organic pollutants at full scale facilities and to determine the ability of these kinetic parameters to predict effluent concentrations of the target compounds. Biodegradation of acetate, ethylene glycol, acetone, and furfural was studied ...

Phenol Biodegradation Kinetics in the Presence of Supplimentary Substrate

Biodegradation of phenol in the presence of glucose as a supplementary substrate was investigated with mixed microbial consortium isolated from waste effluent of coke-steel factory. Batch experiments were carried out at room temperature and pH value of 7. Initial phenol and glucose concentrations were in the range of 25-1000 mg/l and 500-3000 mg/l, respectively. In a dual substrates system the ...

Analysis of Oil Biodegradation Products

Oil that has undergone biodegradation or photooxidation, contains oxygenated compounds. These compounds cannot be analysed by standard extraction and gaschromatographic methods. Conventional methods do not analyse for polar compounds and would not count them in the analytical results. Studies have shown that highly oxidized oil, including that undergoing biodegradation and photooxidation, is no...

Effect of remediation strategy on crude oil biodegradation kinetics and half life times in shoreline sediment samples

Bioremediation, the process by which microorganisms degrade organic compounds to non-toxic or less toxic substances, has been widely used for cleanup of coastal ecosystems after oil spills. In this study, the hydrocarbon degradation rate and half lives in three bioremediation strategies (natural attenuation, biostimulation, and bioaugmentation) were compared in weathered crude oil (WCO) contami...
